Blanchfield Army Community Hospital Provides Flu Vaccine to TRICARE Beneficiaries

Blancfield Army Community Hospital

Blanchfield Army Community Hospital (BACH)Fort Campbell, Kentucky – Eligible TRICARE beneficiaries aged six months and older have several options to receive the seasonal flu shot this year.

“Getting the flu shot is more important than ever to make sure you are protected, your family is protected, your colleagues are protected and the whole community is protected,” said Col. Vincent Myers, commander of the Blanchfield Army Community Hospital.

When BACH recently received its first shipment of influenza vaccine, staff began administering it first to deployed soldiers, inpatients and hospital employees, from the education activity of the Ministry of Defense and child and youth services in post.

With the arrival of additional flu vaccine deliveries, hospital officials have scheduled a walk-in clinic November 2-4, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Passenger Processing Center, 7162 Hedgerow Road, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. This event is intended for eligible TRICARE beneficiaries, including retirees, military, and family members of retirees aged six months and older who receive care while on-station or through an off-station network provider.

TRICARE beneficiaries receiving care from a remote network provider can avoid personal expenses by getting a flu shot during the three-day event at PPC without co-payment or cost sharing for an office visit when they receive their flu shot at the station event.

Soldiers typically receive their flu shot through their unit for the most accurate unit readiness monitoring and reporting.

“It’s a very important thing that we do every year because it protects our force, to keep our force ready and healthy so that the soldiers can accomplish any mission that is required of them,” said Command Sgt. . Major Daniel Santiago, enlisted senior advisor to BACH.

“If for any reason soldiers receive the vaccine away from their post, they should make sure to obtain documentation from the pharmacist indicating when, where, the brand and batch number of the vaccine and provide it to their representative. medical unit, ”Santiago added.

TRICARE Prime beneficiaries registered with BACH and its peripheral clinics can also receive the influenza vaccine in their assigned nursing home during scheduled primary care appointments. These beneficiaries can make an appointment via TRICARE Online or via the BACH appointment line at 270.798.4677 or 931.431.4677.

Hospital staff began offering beneficiaries the flu shot during face-to-face appointments on October 25. With the current variant of nursing home staffing and COVID-19 mitigation efforts, additional walk-in influenza immunization services are limited. Beneficiaries registered with BACH and its peripheral clinics can refer to the table below for more information on receiving the influenza vaccine from their assigned medical home.

The CDC recommends that anyone six months and older get a flu shot each season, with rare exceptions. The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has made this recommendation since the 2010-2011 influenza season.

The CDC also says that vaccination to prevent the flu and its potentially serious complications is especially important for people who are at a higher risk of developing serious flu complications.

The flu shot prevents millions of flu-related illnesses and doctor visits each year.
