Cumberland County Lounge to move to a larger facility

A Camp Hill hair salon has outgrown its current facilities after five years and will be relocating to Lower Allen Township in the spring.

Roots Hair Salon is moving from its current facility at 244 S. 17th St. to a larger location at 3804 Gettysburg Road.

Roots experienced a business boom when COVID-19 restrictions were lifted last spring.

“It was a flood,” owner Andrea Smith said in a new statement. “We also had a lot of new clients because other stylists had closed their doors or couldn’t get appointments. “

Smith said during the shutdown she hired 10 more salon assistants because she knew the business would need help with extra laundry and cleaning. And she says that since people started working from home, weekday appointments have increased.

Roots also offers nail, waxing and eyelash services, as well as hair salon services.

The salon is a family business. Smith’s son-in-law, Tyler Hockenberry, runs the salon’s hair salon on the first floor. His daughter Abbie Hockenberry is a stylist, his daughter Hannah Snyder is a nail technician. Her son-in-law, Noah Snyder, takes care of the salon’s webpage and Smith’s grandnephew, Caleb Hill, takes care of the planning and reception.

Smith previously owned the Chez Andre salon, which is adjacent to the new location.

Smith sells the three-story building on 17th Street. A buyer would have the option of purchasing existing salon equipment if they so desired. If the current building is sold before the company moves, Smith said Roots will lease the building to the new owner until he’s ready to move. RSR Realtors markets the property.
