RE/IHS/WaMaC 7th Grade Girls Softball Games are winding down with their final home game this Wednesday June 29th at Independence Baseball/Softball Complex and their final game of the season Friday July 1st at Vinton!! The coaches for this team are Scott Kleve and Cole Trimble (hired by the Independence Community School District.)

2022 Dog Tags are available at the Falcon Civic Center. Park Address: 1305 5th Ave NE, Independence (next to Falcon Civic Center) All dogs must be up to date with their vaccines. Like and follow Indee Bark Park on Facebook. Reminder: the annual permit is only $25 (with a copy of the vaccination record) or the day passes are only $3 per dog per day. Purchase at the Falcon Civic Center. Many thanks to Blue Buffalo Independence for their generous donation of $10,000 to be used towards the purchase of dog agility and playground equipment to be placed in Indee Bark Park. Your help is much appreciated!!!

Swimming registration started April 1st and limited spots are still available!!!

Registration for group swimming lessons (Baby/Toddler & Preschool is FULL (Session 2: July 11 to 21) & School age – Limited places still available) Aquatic center season passes AVAILABLE – Family in town $115 or single $75 $/ Outside Town Family $140 or Single $90 (Add 1 babysitter for an additional $10), Party Shelter Rentals ($35 for 2 ½ hour rental + daily admission to all off season pass holders) and the list of lifeguards ready to teach privates is available for the public. You can pick up a copy at the Independence Aquatic Center or the Falcon Civic Center.

24-HOUR ACCESS TO FALCON CIVIC CENTER AVAILABLE FOR ANNUAL MEMBERS… Falcon Civic Center Hours: Monday-Thursday 6am-7pm, Friday 6am-6pm, Saturday – NO STAFF IN JUNE – usually open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Our access system is an APP-based system, so interested members must have an updated smartphone to download the app and use the system. The cost is only $25 (one-time fee with full annual subscription) in addition to your annual membership fee

Falcon Civic Center Annual Membership Fee:

Memberships and/or 24 hour access must be purchased at the Falcon Civic Center. Once paid and the form fully completed, Bob will email you the link (from POSTMASTER, not BOB BEATTY) to download the APP.

If you are a member with 24-hour access and wish to bring a friend who does not have 24-hour access, the cost is:

  • $4 per person, regardless of membership status. You must be at least 16 years old to come alone or if you are under 16, you must come accompanied by a responsible adult.

The admission drop box is located at the reception of the Falcon Civic Center.

24-hour access to Falcon Civic Center does NOT transfer to 24-hour access to River’sEDGE or vice versa. You need to buy separately. REMEMBER YOU ARE ON CAMERA!!!!

This fitness class will meet 8 times in July on MWF from 5:45-6:30 a.m. at the Falcon Civic Center Gym. (NO CLASSES July 4, 11, 13, 20 and 22) Janet Buls is the instructor for this class. The focus is on cardio, flexibility, balance, and strength training intervals. All fitness levels are welcome. The instructor works with the class and progresses at everyone’s pace so that everyone succeeds. Consult your physician before beginning this exercise program. The cost is $24 for the month of July or $4 per stopover. Register and pay at the Falcon Civic Center.


Please note: Tae Kwon Do student summer course schedules Thursday June 23, Monday June 27 and Tuesday June 28.

NO classes in July!

End of Summer Tae Kwon Do classes will be held once a week on Monday August 15th, Monday August 22nd and Monday August 29th! Will start from 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.! Cost: $5 per lesson!


Thursday September 1st and Tuesday September 6th & Thursday September 8th! After these dates, classes will take place from 4:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday and Thursday evenings!

PS! Tae kwon do belt certificates are available, please collect them!

Tae Kwon Do will meet Little Dragons (4-6 yrs) from 4:30-5pm and TKD (7+ yrs) @ 4:45-5pm warm-up and class 5-6pm. PLEASE NOTE: A $5 fee will be charged if the monthly fee has not been paid. Little Dragons Tae Kwon Do – This class is half an hour long and best suited for a shorter attention span. Option for all children under 6, if you are 6 you can choose between Little Dragons or our regular TKD class. Little Dragons is a readiness program created specifically for preschool and elementary school children. Tae Kwon Do techniques including striking, kicking, blocking and stances as well as self-defense. For the youngest, it also includes training on balance, concentration, flexibility and the development of fine motor skills. Sign up and pay on River’sEDGE.

Main’s Peak Performance Tae Kwon Do – regular classes are held Monday and Thursday evenings from 5-6pm at River’sEDGE. Master Tim will arrive at River’sEDGE at 4:45 p.m. to warm up each evening. TKD offers conditioning, self-defense and everyone a great opportunity to promote self-discipline and self-esteem as well as teach participants education and self-confidence.


The season will run from August 10 to September 14 on Wednesday evenings at 6:15 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. (may change if necessary to accommodate the largest number of teams)/ Games played at Independence Baseball/ Softball Complex/ Register as a team with a manager – Teams are made up of men and women who are at least 18 years old or an HS 2022 graduate, men will hit a 12 inch softball and women will hit a softball of 14 inches and the teams will pose as well as the referee / Register by calling 319-334-6711.


Softball – open to TEAMS in 10U, 12 and 14U divisions with games played on Sundays/ 5 weekends 10 games $400 per team/ Register in your 2022 summer age division/ Game dates will be August 21, 28, September 11, 18, 25 (October 2)/ Registration sheets available at the Complex and the Falcon Civic Center.

Baseball- open to teams ($00 per team) or individuals ($60 per player) Baseball 9U/10U & 11U/12U – 2nd division played on Saturdays/ 5 weekends 10 games/ Register in your age division 2023/ Game dates will be August 20, September 27, 10, 17, 24 (October 1)/ Sign-up sheets available at the Complex and Falcon Civic Center

The Falcon Civic Center gym is available to rent for your child’s birthday party!! We have sports equipment (including basketball, kickball, soccer, wiffleball, football, etc.) available at the front desk for you to play with during your party! Parties can only be scheduled during our normal business hours on Saturday or Sunday. Birthday party rental is $100 for 2.5 hours at the Falcon Civic Center gymnasium. Call 319-334-6711 to reserve.

The River’sEDGE Great Hall is available to rent for gatherings. The cost is $30 per hour/per day with a maximum daily rental fee of $200. If you wish to install the day before your rental, there will be an additional $50. Tenants are responsible for installation, dismantling and cleaning. Call Lucas at 319-332-1525 to discuss options, take a tour or to book your rental.
