The FEHM (Majorcan Hotel Federation) said today that 84.3% of hotels in Mallorca will be open by April.
The federation said that at the Fitur travel fair in Madrid early last month, its members, who represent the vast majority of hoteliers on the island, agreed to begin to gradually open for the season in February and March.
The vice-president of the federation, Maria José Aguiló, said yesterday that there was a very positive feeling in Fitur for this season and an encouraging number of hoteliers have said they intend to open earlier than usual. By the end of this month, we expect 24% of hotels to be open and in March this figure will increase to 42%.
The federation said that following the easing of travel restrictions across Europe, particularly Majorca’s main source markets such as the UK and Germanyas well as the relaxation of Covid rules and regulations in Spain, overseas holiday markets have reacted favorably and that a marked increase in bookings for Mallorca witnessed.
So much so that the federation predicted yesterday that 84.3% of its members’ hotels will be open by April, just in time for Easter. That’s five times the number of hotels open in Mallorca in April last year.
And yesterday TUI UK was the latest airline and tour operator to announce additional flights to destinations including Mallorca following similar announcements from easyJet and Jet2 earlier this week to meet pent up holiday demand in the UK United this year.
