October at the Oceanic Free Library

The Oceanic Free Library (OFL) says it’s time for a good ghost story, fall fun, a new recipe and fall-inspired crafts at this fun and friendly historic library, voted ” Most Loved Library 2022” by Hulafrog for the fourth year in a row.
The Friday Knitters adult group continues to meet weekly at 2 p.m. All levels of knitters and crocheters are welcome.
The Women’s Book Club meets on the third Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. All are welcome, even gentlemen. Call the library if you need a large print or CD/audio version instead of the traditional print copy. Registration is not required. You can also call the library for information about the new Men’s Book Club.
The Two River Bridge Club now meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. for a lesson and 6:45 p.m. for play. The next sessions will take place on November 2 and December 7.
Have you always dreamed of catching a ghost? Well, Friday, October 21 might just be your lucky night. From 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., you can be part of the Ocean Free Library Paranormal Public Inquiry. Local historian and paranormal investigator Greg Caggiano and the ‘Ghosts on the Coast’ team will attempt to find out if any spirits inhabit the century-old building after hours! The evening will begin with a brief presentation on ghost hunting techniques and methods followed by a hands-on investigation. Reservations are limited to 15 people, and it will fill up quickly. Tickets are $40 per person. Please note that there is no guarantee paranormal activity will be experienced, but it will be fun to see.
Miss Molly has more of these fun “take and make” home craft kits available from reception on the 1st and 15th of every month. Each bag of personally assembled kits contains all the parts you’ll need to make a fun DIY at home and a link for virtual story time and instructions. First come, first served – one bag per child.
Miss Molly invites you to Baby and Toddler Storytime, Tuesdays from 10:15 a.m. to 10:35 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. to 11:35 a.m. There’s also a special program on November 22 at 11:15 a.m. called “Coastal Melodies.” Preschool and Family Storytime takes place from 2-2:20 p.m. on Tuesdays. Registration is required for each StoryTime session. Walk-in visits will not be permitted as session sizes are limited to 10 children per session. Masks are recommended but not mandatory for children over 2 years old. All unvaccinated companions must wear masks.
Every Tuesday from 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the library organizes awesome activities that are super fun. Registration is required for many of these events, so plan ahead.

- October 25 – Listen to a scary story, then make your own slime!
- November 1 – Meet a real K9 officer and a working police dog, and watch a demonstration of how these highly trained dogs work to protect us.
- November 8 – Reading to Dogs
- November 15 – Special program: fairy tale storyteller
- November 22 – Special Snapology Program!
- November 29 – History and crafts with a dog
As always, each month also features the works of local artists who exhibit and sell a wide range of artwork. There’s always something new and unique, and 20% of sales go directly to support the library. This month, discover and shop the pretty creations of Lily May Pottery. Joining her, get into the holiday spirit with Unique Creations by Triple C. Zach Wilson returns with his pottery and mugs, and joining him will be the beautiful jewelry from Victoria Ruta Designs.
The library is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
OTF will be closed on Friday, November 11 for Veterans Day. On Wednesday, November 23, the library will close at 1 p.m. and will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day and the Friday following Thanksgiving Day.
