Finance Minister Siniša Mali owned two dozen luxury apartments on the Bulgarian coast. Serbian crime and corruption reporting network KRIK made the revelation after its reporters received the documents via the Pandora Papers leak.

KRIK reported that Mali bought one of the apartments in its name, while buying the other 23 through two offshore companies in the British Virgin Islands.

In 2015, journalists from KRIK and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) announced that Mali, then mayor of Belgrade, had purchased 24 luxury apartments in Bulgaria’s popular “Saint-Nicolas” complex, located on the Black Sea.

The news sparked public outrage as the total property value was around 5 million euros, far more than Mali’s income as mayor of the Serbian capital.

At the time, Mali reacted by accusing the press of lying, admitting to having bought only one apartment – the one in its name – and by denying owning the two offshore companies that had bought the 23 apartments. remaining.

Now, the Pandora Papers published by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) have uncovered documents created by Trident Trust, an offshore company formation agency of which Mali was a client. This seems to show without a doubt that Mali owned both the two companies in the Virgin Islands and the luxury beachfront apartments in Bulgaria.
